Ingrown Toenail & Hangnail Care

Walk-in removal of ingrown nails and hangnails with infection prevention — quick in-office treatment at three Roanoke Valley clinics, no appointment needed.

Overview

What it is

An ingrown nail happens when the nail edge curves into the skin beside it — almost always the big toe — causing pain, swelling, and sometimes infection. Tight shoes, improper trimming, and genetics all play a role. Hangnails are smaller but can open the door to a painful infection around the nail called paronychia. Both are quick to treat when handled properly, and miserable to ignore.

Symptoms

Common symptoms

Redness and swelling at the nail border
A growing area of red, painful tissue over the nail edge (proud flesh)
Pus or drainage around the nail
Pain with pressure from socks or shoes
A painful, torn strip of skin beside a fingernail (hangnail)
